Stellate ganglion block (SGB) has shown effective in the treatment of PTSD. The SGB procedure includes an injection of long-acting local anesthesia in the right side of the neck into the area that controls the "fight or flight" response.  By blocking this response, the brain is able to reset, resulting in long-term relief of anxiety symptoms. Now, research combining SGB with crisis response planning  is underway to understand the potential for reducing suicide attempts in at-risk patients.
